The Crisis
We are blessed. We don't endure a daily struggle to find water, we simply turn a faucet. But for nearly 1 billion people who don't have any access to water, it's not that easy. 1 in 8 people worldwide has no way of getting clean water!
Water is vital to life - making up approximately 60% of our bodies. Without it, you or I would be dead in a matter of days. It is necessary for health and sanitation, crucial for growing food and sustaining basic economic progress.
Over 3.5 million people die a year from water-related disease. 84% of those deaths are children under the age of 14. That means a child dies EVERY 15 SECONDS - that's like wiping out an entire preschool classroom in just 5 minutes!
Women and children walk an average of 6 km (about 3.75 miles) every day to collect water - water that is contaminated and will likely make them sick. They carry it home in heavy containers, putting them at risk for spinal deformities, spontaneous abortions, and attacks. The hours spent collecting water is time that children could be in school and women could be earning a living and caring for their families, but they are given no other option.
Communities without clean water live enslaved to poverty. The resulting lack of sanitation is the world's leading cause of infection. Dirty water is quietly killing them one-by-one, with casualties far higher than any war ever waged.
Water covers 70% of our planet, but 97.5% of it is saltwater, leaving only a tiny portion as freshwater for the world's growing population to use - but most of it is locked in glaciers and permafrost. Of the remaining 30% of the world's available freshwater, 98.7% of it is located in underground acquifers. Those who are suffering and dying simply can't get to the water that they so desperately need. Until now...
WE CAN HELP! Let's dig deep & bring the water up - water full of life, hope, and the promise of a future!
